Heather James is Principal, Director of Research and member of the Investment Committee at Federal Street Partners, an investment advisory firm that provides a broad range of investors with alternative investment strategies, including enhanced risk/return strategies through global fund of funds products.
Heather is responsible for global hedge fund manager research and sourcing, including Emerging Markets and portfolio allocation on behalf of the firm’s advisory clients. She selects and monitors investments with managers, focusing on qualitative characteristics vs quantitative analysis and she contributes to overall portfolio management.
Prior to Federal Street Partners, Heather was a Consultant for Insinger de Beaufort, an Anglo-Dutch Private Banking & Trust Group. Her primary responsibility was to develop relationships with hedge fund managers, fund of funds, prime brokers, family offices and financial institutions. As a result, she gained vast research experience within the hedge fund industry.

She relocated with the firm’s Johannesburg headquarters to New York before moving to work for Standard New York, a subsidiary of Standard Bank, London Ltd. which itself is a wholly owned subsidiary of Standard Bank Group, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Heather is a Member of 100 Women in Finance; Member of the Metropolitan Club; Trustee of The One East Sixtieth Street Historical Foundation; Member of The Greenwich Roundtable and SAORA.
